Direct Line View On Mobile Phone Sentences

Published: 22/07/08

Well known insurance company Direct Line is welcoming proposals by the government to send people to jail if they use a handheld mobile phone whilst driving.

In a study carried out by Direct Line early in 2007 there were over a million drivers using a mobile phone at any particular time, which works out to around one in thirty-four drivers. As everyone knows using a mobile phone whilst driving can prove to be very distracting and can easily lead to a very serious accident. It is understandable therefore that Direct Line are firmly behind the government proposals and guidelines.

Although it is only mobile phones that are currently illegal to use drivers are also advised to take extra care when they use satellite navigation systems. This new technology is almost always used for places drivers are unfamiliar with so they are being advised, by Direct Line as well as road safety groups, to take even more care than normal and make a sanity check of road signs and markings to ensure the rules of the road are followed at all times.
